How This Site Came About
The originator of this site is an interpreter for the hearing impaired, interpreting sermons and Bible lessons for the deaf at the Northeast church of Christ. Because the deaf must use their eyes to watch the interpreter, they felt some frustration that they were not able to take notes or look up Scriptures as the sermons and lessons were being presented. To look away from the interpreter was to stop hearing. To aid the deaf, the interpreter began transcribing cassette tape recordings of sermons and lessons that were presented to the congregation since its beginning in March of 1997. The reaction of the deaf to the printed sermons was that they were learning much more because they could take their time to really STUDY the sermons and lessons, look up Scripture, discuss what they were being taught, and keep the transcripts for future study for themselves and with others.
From this beginning, then, came the idea of making a site for these doctrinally sound lessons and sermons that we, as a congregation of the Lord’s people, are blessed to hear and learn from every week.
We then added an excellent Bible Study Course, which was developed by our brother in the Lord, Arlie Eicke over a ten-year period of time. It is called The Gift of Eternal Life Berean Bible Study Course. To guide you to God’s Gift of Eternal Life, this Bible Study Course leads you on a spiritual search through the Word of God to learn The Character of Jesus Christ Our Lord, The Process of Reconciliation With God, The Way of Serving God In Christ Jesus and The Family of God / The Body of Christ. Scripture links were added to the Course for those people who do not have a Bible, or who do not have the New International Version of the Bible. Answer links were added so that you might check your progress as you “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” 2 Peter 3:18. A diligent study of this Course should lead you to an obedient life in Christ so that you bring Him glory both now and forever!
Another feature of the site is a Weekly Bible Reading Guide for Two Years, which was developed by our brother in the Lord, Harvey Porter, with the help of others. Before Harvey’s death in March of 1998, he was a preacher of the Gospel for more than 40 years, and a true servant of God. He loved the Scriptures with his very breath, and delighted in developing a weekly Bible reading plan that would take the reader into both the Old Testament and into the New Testament in each daily reading. He emphasized reading the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) for the purpose of imprinting on the mind and heart and soul the life, death and resurrection of our sweet Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We hope these Daily Bible Readings will encourage you to read, obey, live and breathe the very Words of God.
We also began working closely with J. C. Choate Publications and the World Evangelism Foundation. They have graciously allowed us to use their Biblical materials, featured in our Books and Articles section.
Since the day of the first Gospel sermon on the Day of Pentecost, recorded in Acts, chapter 2, the message of God has been taught and spread in response to the command of Jesus to “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you...,” Matthew 28:19-20 (King James Version of the Bible). We are to teach, baptize and teach again. We pray that this rather unique way of presenting the Truth, the Word of God, will be a blessing to you as you search for the Way home to God. It is our fervent goal to bring to you ONLY God’s commands and teachings, and NOT the teachings, opinions or traditions of men. It is our pleasure to share with you the teaching of God as presented by men who are dedicated to His service and to His Word. May GOD’S Will be done in all things.
We pray to set a good example for you, and to provide you with sound teaching—God’s inspired Word, His breath upon you. This is what the Father has commanded of us, His children and servants: “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him,” Colossians 3:16-17. We fervently pray that our work on this site is a tool to do the work of God, bringing you closer to Him. You are in our prayers, and may God grant you wisdom as you study His Word.
