NOTE that there is NO plural for "church" (i.e.
"the churches"). The plural is not found in any
Greek manuscript earlier than the ninth century. All of the
old manuscripts have the singular ecclesia, "the
church," SINGULAR. The word "church" is
used in a sense that is broader than a local congregation.
Though there were congregations in many places, there was still
just one "church." At this point, the one
church--the one body--was throughout all of
Palestine--the area of Judea, Galilee and Samaria.
Ephesians 4:4-6: "There is one body
and One Spirit--just as you were called to one hope when you
were called--One Lord, one faith, one baptism; One God and
Father of all, Who is over all and through all and in
all."
