MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
This is the first of 28 times that the word
"disciples" appears in the book of Acts. It is
applied to Christians in general.
A considerable length of time may have passed since the
events at the end of Acts 5. In Acts
5:14, we see that "more and more men and women
believed in the Lord and were added to their number."
In Wayne Jackson's book, The Acts of the Apostles From
Jerusalem to Rome, he states: "In spite of the
menacing threat of growing hostility, the religion of Jesus
continued to flourish. It has been estimated that there may
have been as many as 20,000 disciples in Jerusalem at this
time."
