Acts 12:21-24: "On the appointed
day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered
a public address to the people. They shouted, 'This is
the voice of a god, not of a man.' Immediately, because Herod
did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down,
and he was eaten by worms and died. But the Word of God
continued to increase and spread."
Acts 13:44-49: "On the next Sabbath
almost the whole city [Pisidian Antioch] gathered to hear the Word
of the Lord. When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled
with jealousy and talked abusively against what Paul was
saying. Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly:
'We had to speak the Word of God to you first. Since you
reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we
now turn to the Gentiles. For this is what the Lord has
commanded us: "I have made you a light for the
Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the
earth.'" When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad
and honored the Word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for
eternal life believed. The Word of the Lord spread through
the whole region."
Acts 19:13-17: "Some Jews who went
around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the Name of the
Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say,
'In the Name of Jesus, Whom Paul preaches, I command you to
come out.' Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest,
were doing this. One day the evil spirit answered them,
'Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are
you?' Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on
them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that
they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. When this
became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were
all seized with fear, and the Name of the Lord Jesus was held in
high honor. Many of those who believed now came and openly
confessed their evil deeds. A number who had practiced
sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly.
When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to
fifty thousand drachmas. In this way the Word of the Lord
spread widely and grew in power."
