MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
Paul and Barnabas "committed" the elders to the
Lord. The word "committed" is also translated
"commended" in the KJV. Wayne Jackson, in The
Acts of the Apostles From Jerusalem to Rome states that to
commend (or, to commit) the elders to the Lord literally meant,
"to place on deposit to the Lord," and that "this
is an implied affirmation of Christ's divine
nature."
Paul also committed the elders of the church in the city of
Ephesus to God and His Word in his parting comments to them in
Acts 20:32: "Now I commit you to God and
to the Word of His grace, which can build you up and give you an
inheritance among all those who are sanctified."
