Part IV--The Family Of God / The Body Of Christ

E. Lesson 23--The Leaders of Christ's Body

    7. READ: MARK 10:42-45

      c. Why did the Son of Man come to the world?

Answer: The Son of Man came to the world to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many, (verse 45).

MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
        • Read Scriptures in b above re: "serve."

        • Concerning "ransom:"

Ransom means "the price paid for release (from bondage)."

Isaiah 35:8-10: "And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it. No lion will be there, nor will any ferocious beast get up on it; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there, and the ransomed of the Lord will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away."

          See also Isaiah 51:11.

Hosea 13:14: [God said,] "I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. Where, O death, are your plagues? Where, O grave, is your destruction?"

1 Timothy 2:5-6: "For there is One God and One Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Who gave Himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time."

Hebrews 9:14-15: "How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, Who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! For this reason Christ is the Mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant."
