In the Greek language, "citizenship" is
"the sphere of our citizenship, our "city
home.'" A. T. Robertson in World Pictures in
the New Testament says, "Paul was proud of his Roman
citizenship and found it a protection. The Philippians were
also proud of their Roman citizenship. But Christians are
citizens of a kingdom not of this world."
John 14:1-4: [Jesus said,] "Do not
let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me.
In My Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would
have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take
you to be with Me that you also may be where I am. You know
the way to the place where I am going."
John 15:19: [Jesus said,] "If you
belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you
do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
That is why the world hates you."
John 18:36: "Jesus said, 'My
kingdom is not of this world. If it were, My servants would fight
to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now My kingdom is from
another place.'"
Ephesians 2:19-22: "Consequently,
you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with
God's people and members of God's household, built on the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself
as the chief cornerstone. In Him the whole building is joined
together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And
in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in
which God lives by His Spirit."
Colossians 1:13-14: "For He has
rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the
kingdom of the Son He loves, in Whom we have redemption, the
forgiveness of sins."
Colossians 3:1-4: "Since, then, you
have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your
minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died,
and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ,
Who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in
glory."
1 Thessalonians 5:9-11: "For God
did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through
our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are
awake or asleep, we may live together with Him. Therefore
encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you
are doing."
2 Timothy 4:18: "The Lord will
rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to His
heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory for ever and ever.
Amen."
James 4:4: "You adulterous people,
don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God?
Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of
God."
1 Peter 2:9-10: "But you are a
chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him Who
called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. Once you
were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had
not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."
2 Peter 3:10-13: "But the day of
the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a
roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and
everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be
destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You
ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day
of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the
destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in
the heat. But in keeping with His promise we are looking
forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of
righteousness."
