The Gift of Eternal Life Berean Bible Study Course

Part IV--The Family Of God / The Body Of Christ

F. Lesson 24--The Destiny of Christ's Body

    2. READ: 1 CORINTHIANS 15:35-54

      f. What saying will then come true?

Answer: When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory," [Isaiah 25:8], (verse 54).

MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:

Psalm 68:20: "Our God is a God Who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death."

John 8:51: [Jesus said,] "I tell you the Truth, if anyone keeps My Word, he will never see death."

Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 7:24: "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Romans 8:1-2: "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death."

Romans 8:38-39: "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

1 Corinthians 15:26, 56-57: "The last enemy to be destroyed is death...The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

2 Timothy 1:8-10: "So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me His prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the Gospel, by the power of God, Who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of His Own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, Who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel."

Hebrews 2:14-15: "Since the children have flesh and blood, He [Jesus] too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil--and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death."

Revelation 1:18: [Jesus said,] "I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades."

Revelation 20:14: "Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death."

Revelation 21:1-4: "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.'"

Revelation 22:14: "Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death."

From The Book of 1 Corinthians by Jim McGuiggan:

And it's at the time when this corruptible body is transformed into the incorruptible body that Hosea 13:14 finds fulfillment with a vengeance. Contextually, it refers to the redemption of the northern kingdom, Israel, from its national grave. Paul takes this redemption Truth and fills its sails and lets it go. DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY! And then the taunting song begins, a song which righteous people have wanted to sing for a thousand generations. O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?

No more graveyards. No long black limousines. No lines of mourners. No weeping pall-bearers. No stifled sobs. No heartbreaking goodbyes. No colorless cheeks. No cold and stiff limbs. No death! DEATH! THOU SHALT DIE!
