Part I--The Character Of Jesus Christ Our Lord

F. Lesson 6--Jesus Is The Savior Of The Obedient

    11. READ: ROMANS 5:6-11

      d. Through what are people reconciled to God?

Answer: To be reconciled to God means to change from being the enemy of God in our sins to being in friendship with God--reconciled to Him. This is not done by any person on his/her own. Reconciliation is offered by God to mankind THROUGH the death of His son, Jesus Christ, (verse 11).

MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:

To be reconciled with God is HIS invitation to us to CHANGE our attitudes, no longer being hostile toward God through our sinful lives. Then we accept the provision God has made--belief in and obedience to His Son--so that our sins can be remitted, taken away and forgotten by God.

Because JESUS paid the price for our sins--atoned for our sins by His shed blood--and we believe in Jesus, obey Him and continue to serve God THROUGH Him, we stand justified--made right--in the eyes of God. We are therefore reconciled to Him as His friends, and His wrath will not fall on us.

This is the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! This is what the children of God proclaim to the world by the command of Christ: Matthew 28:18-20: "Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'")

2 Corinthians 5:16-21: "So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, Who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him Who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God."

Colossians 1:15-23: "He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now He has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation--if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the Gospel. This is the Gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant."
