PART III--The Way Of Serving God In Christ Jesus

B. Lesson 14--We Serve By Continuing To Learn

    9. READ: JAMES 1:22-25

      b. Who will be blessed?

Answer: The child of God who will be blessed in what he/she does is the one who LOOKS INTENTLY into the Father's perfect law that gives freedom. The true child of God CONTINUES to do this, AND does NOT FORGET what he/she has heard, AND he/she obeys, or DOES what, that perfect law commands, (verse 25).

MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
      • Jesus--God with us, God made flesh--left us His example of DOING the Will of His Father--obeying the perfect law of God:
        • Matthew 20:26-28: [Jesus said,] "Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave--just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

John 13:12-17: "When He [Jesus] had finished washing their feet, He put on His clothes and returned to His place. ‘Do you understand what I have done for you?' He asked them. ‘You call Me "Teacher" and "Lord," and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the Truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.'"

      • The slave to sin does not have the joyous freedom to be what he/she was created for--to be able to "speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom," (James 2:12).
      • In Christ Jesus, we are born of God to do good works, which He prepared in advance for us to do, (Ephesians 2:10).
