PART III--The Way Of Serving God In Christ Jesus

D. Lesson 16--We Serve By Being Holy

    15. READ: EPHESIANS 5:15-20

      c. What should we always give thanks to God for?

Answer: We should give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, (verse 20).

MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
      • Giving thanks to God for EVERYTHING is an acknowledgement by the child of God that all good things come from Him. Every good thing we are and have is a blessing from God:
        • James 1:16-17: "Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, Who does not change like shifting shadows."

      • We acknowledge that we ARE His people:
        • Psalm 100: "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is He Who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His Name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations."

      • Giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, acknowledges that without Him, nothing was made that was made:
        • John 1:1-3: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made."

      • And all is done with gratitude in our hearts to God for all He has and is doing for us:
        • Colossians 3:15-17: "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."
