Answer: Children of God should not even think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature (the flesh), (verse 14).
MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
"That they might not mistake his meaning concerning the decent clothing which he [Paul] exhorts them to walk in, he immediately explains himself by the use of a common form of speech, and says, still following his metaphor, ‘Put on the Lord Jesus Christ--receive His doctrine, copy His example, and seek the things which belong to another life; for the Gentiles thought of little else than making provision for the flesh or body, to gratify its animal desires and propensities.'" (Adam Clarke's Commentary on the New Testament.)
This putting on of the Lord Jesus Christ results in a different "look," a different way of life, a "keeping in step" with a different standard of measure--the TRUE standard of measuring ourselves for eternity:
Galatians 5:22-25: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit."
Christians are to display outwardly what has already taken place inwardly--including practicing all the virtues associated with Christ:
1 Peter 2:21-25: "To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps. ‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth.' When they hurled their insults at Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats. Instead, He entrusted Himself to Him Who judges justly. He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls."
