Part II--The Process Of Reconciliation With God

D. Lesson 10--We Must Be Washed Free Of All Sins

    5. READ: ACTS 2:36-41

      d. What were they baptized for?

Answer: All of those who accepted the message of God were baptized IN the Name of Jesus Christ FOR the forgiveness of their sins, (verses 38 and 41).

MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:

Matthew 26:28: [Jesus said,] "This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

Luke 24:45-48: "Then He [Jesus] opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, ‘This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His Name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.'"

Acts 5:29-32: "Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than men! The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead--Whom you had killed by hanging Him on a tree. God exalted Him to His Own right hand as Prince and Savior that He might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, Whom God has given to those who obey Him.'"

Acts 10:39-43: "We are witnesses of everything He [Jesus] did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed Him by hanging Him on a tree, but God raised Him from the dead on the third day and caused Him to be seen. He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen--by us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that He is the One Whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His Name."

Acts 13:38: "Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you."

Acts 26:15-18: [Paul, speaking before King Agrippa, said,] "Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?' ‘I am Jesus, Whom you are persecuting,' the Lord replied. ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of Me and what I will show you. I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'"

Ephesians 1:7-8: "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding."

Colossians 1:13-14: "For He [God] has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in Whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
