F. Lesson 12--We Must Be Faithful In Serving The Lord
10. READ: COLOSSIANS 1:9-14
a. What should we become filled with?
Answer: The child of God should become filled with the knowledge of God's Will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding, (verse 9).
MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
- Just having a knowledge of God's Will, the Bible, is only to know facts. The knowledge must be put to use on a Christian's life so that knowledge, wisdom and understanding result in a life worthy of the Lord. We must be striving daily to live godly lives (always doing that which pleases God) based not on the world's wisdom and understanding, but based on spiritual wisdom and understanding that is found in God's Will.
Ephesians 5:17: "Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's Will is."
Ephesians 1:17-18: "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints..."
- A knowledge of God's Will comes by study:
2 Timothy 2:15: "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth."
The King James Version of the Bible translates this verse, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth."
- The application of God's Word on one's life makes a man wise and understanding spiritually. Spiritual wisdom and understanding come from God's breath on you--His Word working in every area of your life. God's breath does not breathe death; it breathes LIFE! It makes a child of God complete--mature. With spiritual wisdom and understanding of God's Word in our lives daily, He works in us what is pleasing to Him:
2 Timothy 2:14-17: "But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Hebrews 13:20-21: "May the God of peace, Who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His Will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him [the godly life], through Jesus Christ, to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
- James 3:13-18 tells us what spiritual wisdom is:
"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the Truth. Such ‘wisdom' does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness."
