11. READ: COLOSSIANS 2:6-10
d. What have we been given in Christ?
Answer: Christians have been given fullness--completion--in Christ, (verse 10).
In Christ, all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form. The totality of God, with all of His powers and attributes, was present in Jesus' human body. He was the very essence of the Deity when He was here on earth. (Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would be called "Immanuel", meaning, "God with us.")
In the same way, Christians have been given fullness IN Christ--which is God in us--while we are in our own bodily form. While we are now IN Christ, He is IN US. Instead of filling ourselves up with the corruption of the world and thereby being IN Satan--his world of sin and darkness and death--we are filling ourselves up with the teachings of Christ, thereby being IN Christ, and HE has snatched us out of the darkness and led us into HIS kingdom of light.
We are now full--complete--with His life IN our life while our life is IN Him. His wisdom and knowledge (which is from the Father) works IN us (instead of the knowledge and traditions of men) while we are IN HIM, working for Him and the Father, the Holy Spirit also being IN US (and working in us through the inspired Word of God) as a gift from God. His wisdom and knowledge works in us through the revealed Word, which is Jesus. The revealed Word was inspired by the Holy Spirit, given by Christ directly from the Father.
We have the "head over every power and authority"--which is Jesus--IN US, subduing and eliminating the power and authority of Satan over us. We have the One for Whom and through Whom all things were created--which is Jesus--IN US, making us a new creation, living IN HIM. While we are IN HIM, He is IN US, perfecting for Himself a holy people, pleasing to His Father. Christians are IN the Word of Truth--which is Jesus--and the Word of Truth is IN US. Truly we are given fullness--completion--IN CHRIST.
The perfection--maturity, completion--that is Christ is IN US so that we may be perfect, mature, complete IN CHRIST:
Colossians 1:28-29: "We proclaim Him [Christ], admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect IN CHRIST. To this end I labor, struggling with all His energy, which so powerfully works in me."
