Answer: We should offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, (verse 1).
MORE INFORMATION AND/OR OTHER SCRIPTURE REFERENCES:
Under the Old Law of Moses, the offering of dead animal sacrifices, on certain occasions, for certain reasons, was pleasing to God. But we are a "living sacrifice" to God in our daily lives. We were brought from death to life with, in and through Christ, and now we offer our lives to God by doing always what pleases Him. To do what is pleasing to God is to be "godly":
Romans 6:13: "Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness."
In this, we imitate Jesus Himself, Who said in John 8:29, "The one Who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do what pleases Him."
And 1 John 3:21-22 says, "Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from Him anything we ask, because we obey His commands and do what pleases Him."
