d. What is the fruit of the light?

Answer: As children of light, we ARE light in the Lord, (verse 8). As children of light, we produce the fruit of the light, which is goodness, righteousness and Truth, (verse 9).

• In John 8:12, Jesus said that those who follow Him have the light of life:

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"

• Jesus says that we can recognize those who produce the fruit of the light and those who participate in the fruitless deeds of darkness:

Matthew 7:16-20: "By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."

• And Galatians 5:22-25 lists more of the fruit of the light which the children of light are to produce:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit."
