Bible Study
The Gift of Eternal Life Berean Bible Study Course
Preface
The Bible is the greatest of all books! To understand it is the noblest of all pursuits. To follow it is the highest of all endeavors. You are to be commended for your interest in studying it!
The word "Bible" means, "Book." This wonderful Book is actually a collection of sixty-six books of various types and sizes. Some forty different men wrote them over a period of about 1,500 years, starting with Moses at the time of the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt.
The Bible covers over 4,000 years of history, from the time of the Creation of the world to the days of the Roman Empire. Most of it relates to the history of the Hebrew or Israelite people, beginning with Adam and continuing through the time of Jesus Christ and His earliest followers.
Three different languages were used in writing the Bible over the years: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. The Bible has now been translated into many other languages currently being used by nations and tribes all over the world.
Of the several translations of the Bible into the English language, the New International Version is rapidly becoming the most popular. It reads very smoothly and is easy to understand. Therefore, we have chosen to use that version as the basis for this course of Bible study. All of the questions in this course of study are based on the wording of the text of the New International Version of the Bible.
The Bible has two major sections: The Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament was written in the languages of the Hebrew people and contains 39 books, all written before Jesus Christ was born. The New Testament has 27 books, all written in the common Greek language within a few years after Jesus was killed.
Christ Jesus is the central character of the entire Bible, and Eternal Life is its central theme. May God bless you abundantly as you read and study about His gracious Gift of Eternal Life in Christ...
